I have a lot of respect for this guy as a tuba player. BUT, Patrick Sheridan takes the cake. He is pretty much who Jesus would be if he was a tuba player

my brother's college euphonium/tuba college professor (also quite an amazing tuba soloist) is a good friend of oystein baadsvik's. so if you think tuba should not be solo'd with, let me just send that over to mr. baadsvik.
Drumerater on 2008, 11, 30

thats where you're wrong. the only instruments that shouldn't be solo'd with are baritone saxaphones LOL
Drumerater on 2008, 11, 30

To try and dis on this preformance only shows you lack any knowledge in music. Either that or you're extremely concieted with thinking treble cleft is the only instrument thats worth a solo; the bass is along with percussion is the most important part of a orchestra/band.

I can, A) Triple tongue, even though if you listen, a lot of his is actually very fast single tongue(Why it sounds so clear as triple tongue has no seperation that can be heard) and some partial double tongue, very little of it is actually triple tongued. And, I can play this piece, just not the same arrangement, nor not as well as this man can.
Datapile on 2008, 11, 30

Actually, sir, I'm a Tuba player, I play no where near as good as this man here Oystein Baadsvik, nor am I dissing his performance, I'm just stating that Tuba isn't really the industry choice when it comes to solo performance.
Datapile on 2008, 11, 30

im sorry all of you below, but do any of ypu know how hard it it to A) triple tongue a tuba and B) make a tube sound tuneful when being fast and quavers. I know british first sections bands with bass players who cant even double tongue and I expect that none of you can play that piece

oh i'm sorry, i didn't realize that the slight altering of the written english language could be so inunderstandable to you. do you actually disagree with what i'm saying, or did you just wake up thinking "hey i feel like acting like a total dick today"? and what instrument do you play? because it's OBVIOUSLY much better than any other instrument. obviously. i have nothing against any instrument, but i have something against you, sir.
Drumerater on 2008, 11, 29

I'd believe you if maybe you could type correclty. The proper way to deliever a comeback is with good grammar. So I suggest you review the "So u guys are dumb" again, because it's obviously incorrect.
Datapile on 2008, 11, 29

ok the tuba is the perfect solo instrument. so u guys are dumb. lawl.
Drumerater on 2008, 11, 29

Impressive from a technical standpoint? Yes. Compelling? No.
evolve749 on 2008, 11, 28

I am not a "tuba enthusiast" (in fact, I play trombone, hence the name) and I still enjoy listening to pieces such as this. If you don't consider this a compelling performance, there is not much else I can do for you...
thelonebone on 2008, 11, 28

Ok, maybe it does sound more like a bull fart. Bull, elephant...same difference. Sure, any instrument can be used as a solo instrument, but not just any instrument can be a compelling solo instrument. I'm sure one could compose a triangle concerto, but I don't think many people would care to listen to it, except perhaps for triangle enthusiasts. The only bass instrument that translates well to the solo arena is the human voice and only because it is so dynamic. Come on people, the tuba?
evolve749 on 2008, 11, 27

Any instrument can be used as a solo instrument. And as for Evolve's comment about it sounding "like an extended elephant fart", bull. You can clearly hear Baadsvik accenting the melody, in spite of playing all the fast notes underneath
thelonebone on 2008, 11, 27

I'm sorry to say, but Evolve is more than correct, Bass instruments aren't exactly mean to be solo, Of course this performance shows the true ability of Oystein baadsvik, and sounds quite well, The tuba wasn't exactly meant for that. But that's why Oystein is so good, He does things differently than meant.
