| Well, evolution allows us insight into how we came to be and therefore how we work. If you cannot see how that is helpful you are retarded. Not only that but it gives us insight into how we can manipulate the enviroment. fatikis on 2008, 10, 17
Why don't you people just stay in church and leave the thinking to the pros? ratsaladman on 2008, 09, 14
what does evolution have to do with scientific improvement?
and do you know anything about the years when Muslims followed Quran %100 in their lives and always advanced in all fields?
as it wants so.. HighFlyingDutchman on 2008, 09, 13
At the end of the day, there are some people, theists, who don't want you to believe in evolution because, to them, evolution is eroding the credibility of a belief in a deity.
But evolution is part of science and, without science, there will be no medical advances, no new technology, no new benefits to mankind.
Believing in a deity is only going to take us back to the dark ages. marcluc1988 on 2008, 09, 11
The study of genetic similarities is evolutionist's way of finding out what has happened in the past in much the same way as forensic science is a way of finding out what happened during a murder even though there were no witnesses.
Another point is 'Darwinism' is no more correct that calling The Theory of Gravity 'Newtonism'.
Very misleading video but, unfortunately, some poor souls are going to believe this nonsense. marcluc1988 on 2008, 09, 11
We DO know of some mutations which are positive. One is a bacteria which has evolved to digest Nylon. As Nylon was only discovered in the 20th Century, it shows that evolution is continuing even in modern times.
Though it is true that a new species has never species has never been observed, a new species does not arise in a short a period so as to be observable by man. Millions of years are required.
DNA is the modern technique of showing the relationships between the species. marcluc1988 on 2008, 09, 11
Most genetic mutations are harmful to the organism and Natural Selection will remove these from the gene pool. Occasionally, a mutation will give the organism a very slight advantage and natural selection wiil, in these cases, favour their reproduction.
Over millions of years, very minor 'advantageous' mutations will accumulate leading to very different life forms.
There is so much nonsense about evolution that many believe some very bizarre ideas about it. marcluc1988 on 2008, 09, 11
Natural selection does not provide any new information. It 'removes' less adaptive 'genetic information' from the gene pool. No true evolutionist would say that it provides new information.
Where does the new information come from? 'The big question.' We have all noticed that some children are born with genetic defects? THAT IS GENETIC MUTATION. I.e New genetic information! This video is full of misleading ideas with the ultimate goal of 'proving the existance of a god. marcluc1988 on 2008, 09, 11
Why Ben would choose to chloroform his career this way just baffles me.
...it's just sad... FatherChrismas on 2008, 09, 06
well that whole video was just a bunch of lies. all you have to do is GOOGLE things like increase genetic information and you see that those claims are wrong.
seriously when GOOGLE beats you with a simple search, you know they haven't reaserched there position very well. 932016 on 2008, 08, 29
I hope the foreign guy in this video isn't in charge of anything terribly important, anyone who isn't perfectly illiterate of science knows that gene duplication provides new genetic information. ShemaleFloozies on 2008, 08, 25
"ALlelic frequency is not a lot to do with EVOLUTION"
lol quote of the week thank you!!
"the allielic frequency of a given population allways returns to its mean "
lol quote of next week!!
On to speciation events,
talkorigins(dot)org/faqs/comdesc/ djarm67 on 2008, 08, 22
Evolution is the change in allelic frequency in a population. Any "new" genes obviously alter the allelic frequency. djarm67 on 2008, 08, 22
YOU USE the term evolve
what happend i posted above
the RNA hit a premature stop codon
ie a random event [a statistical fluke]
not an evolution a production FLAW ,a micro mutation at best NOTHING approaching an evolution [as the retards believing the evolution into a NEW SPECIES would have us believe]
it looks like we both read the same site
i have no need to know more of this accidental loop in the rna [in a normal population it would have just died [as most micro mutations do] oneundergod on 2008, 08, 22
I'll attempt to simplify it for you. A flavobacteria evolved 4 "NEW" genes via frameshift, nylA, nylB, nylB' and nylC. These genes allow the bacteria to produce "NEW" enzymes collectively called "nylonase" which can hydrolyse a completely synthetic compound "nylon" which did not exist prior to 1937. Scientist have since been able to take another bacteria "Pseudomonas" and study it in the lab in a nylon rich environment. Guess what happened? djarm67 on 2008, 08, 22
